Essie's Art of Spring collection - Spring 2010
Essie's Spring collection is... hold onto your hats, folks... filled with pastels, a pink, and a red! Well, perhaps you didn't need to be a mind reader to guess that. Essie knows how to do light colors, especially pinks and sheers, and has quite a nice collection of reds as well. I guess this is one of the many collections that plays to Essie's strengths.
Photo from Nail of the Week.
The colors are Lilacism, Neo Whimsical, Pop Art Pink, Nouveau Red, Tart Deco and Van D'Go. The names of the polishes refer to art movements (and an artist), which is a nice touch. Good attention to detail, Essie! The colors are't ground-breaking, but if you like pastels or crèmes, this collection is worth checking out. Nouveau Red is even more warm in person than the image above, as is Tart Deco. Some hooker had already bought Lilacism, so I wasn't able to see it. Disappointment abounded! But I did opt for Neo Whimsical (706), Pop Art Pink (707) and Van D'Go (710.)
Neo Whimsical is looks like a mix of bubblegum pink and lavender in the bottle, but it looks more lavender on the nail. I wasn't satisfied with its opaqueness until I hit three coats. Same story with Van D'Go, which is darker and more orange on the nail than the bottle leads you to believe. I do think that you could get Pop Art Pink to a soft semi-sheer place with two coats if you're really careful. I did end up doing three coats with it just to see what it looked like. It's still a little streaky then, but it just might be more of an IO (idiot operator) error than the polish.
In the pictures below, Pop Art Pink is on my index finger, Van D'Go is on my middle finger, and Neo Whimsical is on my ring finger. All pictures are with flash except for the second one, which looks a bit washed out. I also included the bottles, in the same order as the polish, so you can see how the colors differ on the nail versus in the bottle.
All in all, it's a nice collection, if not an exciting collection. If you're looking for a dark light orange or a light pinky lavender, Van D'Go and Neo Whimsical might be worth checking out.

Hi Stephanie! I'm not sure when they're supposed to be in chain stores like Ulta, but you might be able to find them in a local nail supply store like I did! :-)
