Moldy oldie: (The new) Hard Candy Sky
Dec 3rd
I was going through my posts- those that have been published and those that were started but never completed- and noticed that this one was ready to go. Pictures already edited and added. And it was written on Halloween... of last year. "Timely" is not my middle name. Hard Candy's polish now retails for $4, which is a slightly better price. I've noticed that while there is a core group of colors that the Hard Candy display says should be there, there are often other colors mixed in with that stock. If you don't see a "position" for Sky, it may be behind the other colors. On with the old post:
Hard Candy rereleased one of their older polishes- Sky (322), a soft baby blue polish with a faint blue pearlescent effect. This one is sadly sheer, but one thin coat and two thick coats was OK for me. If I held my nails up just right, I could see some VNL, but most of the time I couldn't. I couldn't see the blue shimmer most of the time, but it's a nice touch. I'm not entirely sold on the fact that this was US$5 at Walmart, but maybe it'll grow on me. I will say that this polish did give me lobster hands, so that's part of my reluctance to call this one a complete winner.
New Nicoles at Target?
Mar 11th
Nicole by OPI has released some Spring exclusives for Target. But you already know that by reading other blogs, right?
I found them at my local store last week, so check your store if you're cruising for them! Some cell phone pictures...
Hard Candy Beetle
Dec 23rd
I started this post on Halloween. But's now been an entire month since I last posted. Work has been kicking my behind, but that's not much of an excuse. Thank you for sticking with me, faithful readers.
I may have something special to give away here in the next few weeks if you'll continue to bear with me!
Hard Candy Beetle (321) is a... trichrome? Triochrome? Purple red shimmer in some light, golden green in other, and orange gold usually under fluorescent light. What's great about this one is that you can easily see the shift between the colors.
I got compliments on this polish the entire time I wore it, and it's definitely very eye-catching. Beetle wore well, too, though I believe I did need three coats of polish to get it to where I usually couldn't see VNL.
If you love polishes that change color at any angle, run, do not walk, to Wal-mart because this is well worth US$5! I don't remember if I found this one and Sky on an end cap, or shoved in behind the regular line of colors, but check all over the beauty section. You never know where someone is going to put it down after picking it up. But that's another rant for another time...
This picture is way blurry, but it's pretty accurate regarding the color I sometimes saw under fluorescent light indoors:
This is a great color, and I'm glad it's available for a pretty decent price. The only downside is having to go into Wal-mart. ![]()
Chanel Riva and similar polishes
Nov 23rd
The first thing I did when I got Riva, swatch-wise, was compare it to some polishes I already own. I wasn't all that impressed with it at first. But after doing an almost full hand manicure with it, I think I like it more than I initially did. Is it worth US$27? Well, that I'm not sure about just yet.
Riva is like a grayed dark light blue, if that makes sense. It looks different to me in person versus the promotional pictures and dries darker and less dusty/dingy than the color you see in the bottle. The electric blue shimmer is much more noticeable in the bottle than on the nail. I originally wrote that Riva wasn't unique and wasn't worth $27 unless you like the color or collect Chanel polish, but I find myself backing off of those statements now. Riva goes on jelly-like, which I appreciated more with each nail I painted. I did have to use four thin coats to get my nails to look even, which I don't mind for the right color. I did get bubbles both times I had Riva on, but I blame that on my China Glaze Fast Forward top coat and Sally Hansen drying oil. I am really disliking Fast Forward so far- it bubbles and it doesn't dry very fast at all. How much do you like light blues?
