Sephora's Friends and Family sale - nail edition

While trying to make my list for the in store and online Sephora Friends and Family sale, I've trawled through more products than I care to count. In case it might be helpful, I'm providing some links and a little commentary here in case you don't feel like going through and looking for all the nail polish items on Sephora. :) It's very "wall of text," so if you want the highlights right now, here they are: Givenchy has a polish out, some of the nail stickers from Sephora's brand are super cute, and Nails Inc now has flakies for us!Read more »

Quick swatch: two NARS Night Series polishes

My last trip to Nordstrom was dangerous.  Not only did I cave on the two polishes from the YSL Fall collection, but I also had to have two of the new NARS Night Series polishes.  Of course it was the blue, Night Flight ("black with cobalt blue pearls"), and the green, Night Porter ("black with green pearls.")  As soon as I swatched the green on my thumbnail, I knew I had to have both.  While the swatches I'd seen online looked intriguing enough, these are actually better-looking in person.

Night Flight has a base of darker blue and the shimmer looks slightly silvery blue and purple.  The shimmer is more pronounced in the bottle than on the nail, but if I remember correctly, it shows up better than the shimmer in Night Porter.  Two coats did the trick, and you can blame the unevenness at the cuticle on me, not the formula. How did I not notice that the green pictures turned out better than the blue? Lippmann swatches

A month ago, I swatched some of the newer Lippmanns at Nordstrom, so if you're interested, check 'em out!  I did two coats on my nails, though three would have been more appropriate on the sheers.  And I'd suggest ridgefiller with the sheers as well.  If you aggressively push your cuticles back, you'll end up with horizontal ridges like I have in my ring and pinkie nails. *facepalm*Pictures, descriptions, etc.

NARS Summer 2010 - Versailles nail polish

I am 100% underwhelmed with NARS' entire summer collection.  It looked decent in pictures, but very boring in person. :(  The collection is based on Catherine Deneuve in "Belle de Jour," which is a movie I also found to be pretty boring.

Versailles is described as an "opalescent, champagne-gold."  I see neither opalescence nor champagne.  Unless the champagne is on the light yellow gold side.  While I do see some brushstrokes, I was able to get them to be pretty straight.  Two coats of polish looks nice, but I think you may want to do three for opacity.Thar be bright pictures in here...
